No dia 22 de Abril celebrou-se oDia Verde 2008. O dia 22 de Junho era denominadoDia do Planeta. Hoje é celebrado em 22 Abril e denomina-seEarth Day.
O projecto Torrinhas Verdes, nome encontrado porque os alunos frequentavam à época a escola Francisco Torrinha, hoje projecto Geração Verde, nasceu da proposta da Professora Gina Souto aos alunos, aprendizes de ambientalistas, que participavam nas actividades de Earth Day 2008.
Um evento que teve origem nos Estados-Unidos e que junta, neste momento, um número incalculável de participantes de quase todos os países a nível mundial.
Os Green Torrinhas/ Geração Verde estavam inscritos desde 14 de Janeiro de 2008. Eram alunos das Turmas G|H|I do 5º Anoda Escola acima descrita que desenvolveram actividades curriculares e extracurriculares de intervenção ecológica na comunidade escolar, nos currículos Língua Portuguesa e Cidadania, dois vastos campos abertos à intervenção e à criatividade.
Torrinhas Verdes/ Geração Verde adquiriram assim competências no domínio das IT inseridas nos currículos de Língua Portuguesa, Cidadania, adquirindo aprendizagens em tempo curricular e extracurricular. O blog Geração Verdefoi criado por um grupo voluntário de alunas e alunos que, coordenado pela Professora Gina Souto, se reuniam em horas extracurriculares, como actividade de enriquecimento curricular.
Nas aulas, todos os alunos se dedicaram a Actividades que foram desenvolvidas até ao dia 22 Abril - Dia Verde 2008
Entre outros projectos, organizaram umJornal de Paredenos placares de salas das respectivas turmas que ia sendo actualizado, semanalmente, por grupos alternados de alunos, devidamente escalonados.
Durante a semana de 17 de Abril a 21 de Abrilfestejaram então a Semana Verdeem que envolveram toda a comunidade escolar, culminando nos dias 20-21 de Abrilcom o Dia Verde 2008.

Geração Polar blog (Polar Generation) was developed as a pedagogical extra-curricular activity in Languages and Civics curricula, created as a participation at the International Polar Year 2007-2008 (IPY). Students and me were publishing stories, some news, events, photos and videos concerning Environmental Education.
Now, only a small group of students and me, as e-tutor, continue this project in an extra-curricular time when we have some time.
I don't teach in-person anymore. I´m a former teacher, an ecologist, who continue this blog with love. The students are not studying at the same school. They grew up. They were in College. And now, some have their jobs. Other continue their Master degree. Always ecologists, Together in collaboration, we meet on the internet, and continue both blogs Green Generation and Polar Generation with passion as environmentalists.

O objectivo? Chamar a atenção para a produção e consumo excessivo de sacos plásticos a nível mundial, propondo-se alternativas para resolver este sério problema ambiental.
International Plastic Bag Free Day is celebrated on 3rd of July every year which dedicated to heightening awareness about these and very real and pressing issues brought about by this most popular of disposable carrying devices.
We are reminded that those bags we pick up from the retailers are used for an incredibly short time, usually under 25 minutes, and are then disposed of.
For this 10th edition, scores of organisations and hundreds of citizens around the world will take action to raise awareness on the environmental impact and hazards of single-use plastic bags, and promote more sustainable solutions.

Antes de mais, Bom ano 2020! As férias terminaram. Eis-nos de volta! Mas antes de fazer a súmula das nossas publicações 2019, #semestre1, queremos alertar para os milhares de animais mortos nos fogos na Austrália. Koalas, cangurus, animais domésticos e tantas outras espécies.
Segundo um professor ecologista da Universidade de Sydney, estima-se que480 milhões de animais foram afectados directamente pelos fogos florestais.
Há países que estão a enviar luvas para Koalas e bolsas para cangurus em crochet. Koalas queimados, bébés cangurus que perderam as mães canguru e estão a ser protegidos por organizações e reservas na Austrália.
Voluntários em todo o mundo criam abrigos para animais selvagens, como marsupiais bébés que precisam de bolsas para crescer.
Mais de 30% dos Koalas na costa norte do norte de Nova Gales do Sul podem ter sido mortos e muitos outros podem estar em perigo no sul da Austrália na actual crise de incêndios florestais do país, desde que especialistas alertaram que os ncêndios são a maior ameaça que a vida selvagem australiana enfrenta.
Mark Graham, um ecologista do Nature Conservation Council, afirmou que os koalas, na maioria dos casos, "realmente não têm capacidade de se mover rápido o suficiente para se afastar" dos fogos que se espalham de copa em copa das árvores que os abrigavam.
"Os incêndios queimaram tão quente e tão rápido que houve uma mortalidade significativa de animais nas árvores, mas agora há uma área grande que ainda está ardendo, que provavelmente nunca encontraremos os corpos ”

Inconsoláveis perante tal desastre, não nos atrevemos sequer a olhar e muito menos publicar imagens terríficas de animais apanhados nos fogos.
Feita a homenagem a todos os animais que morreram e morrem ainda dizimados pelos fogos na Austrália, voltemos ao Top 2019.

Up to 30% of koalas on New South Wales's mid-north coast may have been killed and many more may be endangered in South Australia in the country’s ongoing bushfire crisis after experts warned fires are the biggest threat Australian wildlife faces.
Mark Graham, an ecologist with the Nature Conservation Council, told the inquiry that koalas in most instances “really have no capacity to move fast enough to get away” from fast-moving crown fires that spread from treetop to treetop.
The fires have burned so hot and so fast that there has been significant mortality of animals in the trees, but there is such a big area now that is still on fire and still burning that we will probably never find the bodies,” Graham said.
The extreme fires have ripped through natural habitats and could cause populations to dwindle.
Fires have destroyed much of the habitat for the island’s wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos and rare birds.
It encapsulated the horror engulfing New South Wales: the footage of a koala mewing in pain as its habitat burned around it. The rescue of that animal, saved from the Long Flat blaze by a woman using her shirt as a shield, went viral (first video).
But the bushfires have injured and displaced vast numbers of other creatures, many of which no longer have homes. Who rescues them – and what does that involve? Read more here

O Dia é da Terra, mas somos nós humanos que estamos sob foco, desde o desaparecimento de animais ao desgaste de recursos do planeta. Estima-se que o homem tenha impactado 83% da superfície terrestre.
E as alterações climáticas que provocam cada vez mais acontecimentos trágicos incontroláveis, como fogos, cheias, subida dos mares, degelo nos pólos. E o desaparecimento ou morte de milhares des espécies.
Given that almost one quarter of the world’s population is aged between 10 and 24, vigorous efforts need to be made to encourage young people, as the future leaders and decision makers of the world, to act at both local and global levels to protect endangered wildlife.
According to the Earth Day Network, Nature’s gifts to our planet are the millions of species that we know and love, and many more that remain to be discovered.
Unfortunately, human beings have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and, as a result, the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago.
But unlike the fate of the dinosaurs, the rapid extinction of species in our world today is the result of human activity.
Our prayers are with Australian people and of course, most of all with wild animals dead and sacrificed without escape because climate change and some countries don't do nothing to modify their behaviour.
