O Dia Internacional do Tigre relembra a comunidade global que é necessário estarmos atentos à conservação desta espécie de felinos. O Tigre.

O objectivo é definir um estratégia global que permita a protecção deste animal em vias de extinção e do seu habitat.

O Dia Internacional do Tigre, 29 de Julho, foi criado em 2010 na Cimeira Internacional de São Petersburgo, dedicada à conservação do Tigre.

Nessa altura já se contavam somente 3 200 tigres em estado selvagem e em apenas 13 países.

O intuito estipulado nessa cimeira, foi o de duplicar o número de tigres selvagens até 2022 de modo a atingir o número de 7 000 tigres selvagens.

Mas, em 2023, apenas 4 500 tigres existem em estado selvagem. A caça furtiva, o tráfico, alterações climáticas e consequente perda de habitat, são algumas das maiores ameaças que os tigres enfrentam todos os dias.

Tema 2023:

O Dia Internacional do Tigre 2023 será celebrado sem nenhum tema específico com o objectivo comum de aumentar a consciencialização sobre a extinção do tigre e a necessidade de o salvar.

Comemore o Dia Internacional do Tigre juntando-se à campanha para proteger estes grandes felinos que continuam em extinção e apoie as questões de protecção do Tigre, pois o principal objectivo deste dia é incentivar a conservação e a expansão dos tigres.

Ah! E não esquece de propor ao grupo/ turma no próximo ano lectivo a adopção simbólica de um Tigre.

Every year on July 29, people all across the world celebrate International Tiger Day. International Tiger Day has been observed annually on July 29th since its inception in 2010 during the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit.

The purpose of the day is to increase public awareness of the value of tiger conservation among citizens, organizations, and governments. The purpose of this day is to inspire everyone to act responsibly to protect wild cats. According to the World Wildlife Fund, the number of tigers has decreased by almost 95% during the past 150 years.

After it was discovered that 97% of all wild tigers had vanished in the previous century, leaving only roughly 3,000 of them, International Tiger Day was first observed in 2010.

The fact that tigers are in danger of going extinct is not a surprise, and International World Tiger Day seeks to prevent the situation from getting worse. A few of the causes of the fall in the tiger population include habitat loss, climate change, hunting, and poaching.

When we ensure a safe and flourishing environment for tigers, it also means preserving other species and protecting our forests.

Sand Cats: uma espécie em recuperação

Este gatinho encantador nasceu no Zoological Center Tel Aviv Ramat Gan - Safari, depois de 63 dias de gestação.

Não se trata de um gatinho qualquer! Faz parte de uma espécie de Sand Cat muito abundante nas dunas de Israel, mas que estava em vias de extinção na região.

O sand cat (Felis margarita), também conhecido por 'sand dune cat', é um gato selvagem pequeno que vive nos desertos africanos e asiáticos (...)  O sand cat vive (embora em via de extinção) em zonas áridas muito quentes e secas como os desertos. (...)

Este é o primeiro nascimento com sucesso da espécie 'sand cats' no Safari Zoo e espera-se que este novo recém-nascido se possa juntar-se ao Programa de de Melhoramento Genético da espécie de modo a ajudar a reintroduzir espécies  em estado selvagem na natureza.

Há três semanas, Rotem, a mãe do gatinho recusou-se a recolher ao seu abrigo nocturno. Os tratadores deixaram-na ao ar livre e durante a noite e gata deu à luz este gatinho  na cova do recinto ao ar livre. Os tratadores só o viram quando  ele deitou apareceu à entrada da toca.

"After 63 days of gestation, a rare Sand Cat Kitten was born at Israel's Zoological Center Tel Aviv Ramat Gan - Safari. Once plentiful in numbers in the dunes of Israel, the Sand Cat has become extinct in the region. This is Safari Zoo's first successful Sand Cat birth and it is hoped this kitten will join Israel's Sand Cat Breeding Program in order to help reintroduce the species into the wild. 

Three weeks ago, the kitten's mother Rotem refused to go into the night chamber at the end of the day. Keepers let her stay outside and the next night she gave birth to a tiny baby in the den in the outdoor enclosure. Keepers first saw the kitten when it poked it's tiny head and looked out from the den."

" The sand cat (Felis margarita), also referred to as the "sand dune cat", is a small cat distributed over African and Asian deserts. (...) The sand cat lives in arid areas that are too hot and dry even for the African Wildcat: the Sahara, the Arabian Desert ." (...)

Esta notícia está datada de 08 de Agosto 2011. Mas, como desconhecíamos esta espécie, quisemos divulgá-la. Mais importante ainda! Saber que se trata de uma espécie em vias de extinção que está a ser recuperada para poder voltar ao seu habitat natural, é a nossa maior alegria.
