Dia da Terra : Protejamos as nossas Espécies

créditos: Earth Day

Tema 2019: Protejamos as nossas Espécies

Earth Day 2019

April 22, 2019! Earth Day’s 49th anniversary of a movement that continues to inspire, challenge ideas, ignite passion, and motivate people to action.

And Earth Day is a special day for schools! All over the world, teachers and students involve on awesome activities and projects to commit to actions that go beyond the planet.

GoogleDoodle interactive slideshow Earth Day 2019

This year's annual Earth Day Doodle takes us around the planet we call home to discover some of the awe-inspiring organisms which inhabit it.

Specifically, the interactive slideshow Doodle explores six organisms across elevations—along with their earthly superlative! You could watch them up.

Students will love it. It´s a slideshow for mobile and pc. Wow! How nice!

Earth Day 2019's theme is :

Protect Our Species

According to the Earth Day Network, Nature’s gifts to our planet are the millions of species that we know and love, and many more that remain to be discovered.

Unfortunately, human beings have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and, as a result, the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago.

But unlike the fate of the dinosaurs, the rapid extinction of species in our world today is the result of human activity.

The unprecedented global destruction and rapid reduction of plant and wildlife populations are directly linked to causes driven by human activity: climate change, deforestation, habitat loss, trafficking and poaching, unsustainable agriculture, pollution and pesticides to name a few. The impacts are far reaching. Read more here

Wow! Don't miss this opportunity! You are the climate generation, remember? You are streaking school on Friday to protest against climate change.
Climate change is one of the largest threats to sustainable development globally and is just one of many imbalances caused by the unsustainable actions of humankind, with direct implications for future generations.

The United Nations World Wildlife Day is the global celebration of the many beautiful and varied forms of wild animals and plants on our planet as well as an occasion to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits they provide to people and the urgent need to reduce the threats facing them.

The animals and plants that live in the wild have an intrinsic value and contributes to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic aspects of human well-being and sustainable development.

World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that conservation provides to people.

World Wildlife Day will be celebrated in 2019 under the theme:

“Life Below Water: For People and Planet."

which aligns with goal 14 of UN Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, the WWD reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.

Given these various negative effects, Sustainable Development Goal #15 focuses on halting biodiversity loss.

Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG14) aims to “conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.”

The ocean contains nearly 200,000 identified species, but actual numbers may be in the millions. Globally, the market value of marine and coastal resources and industries is estimated at US$3 trillion per year, about 5% of global GDP.

Over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. Marine wildlife has sustained human civilization and development for millennia, from providing food and nourishment, to material for handicraft and construction. It has also enriched our lives culturally, spiritually, and recreationally in different ways.
