O Dia Mundial da Vida Selvagem das Nações Unidas (WWD) é comemorado todos os anos a 3 de Março para celebrar animais e plantas selvagens. Todos os anos, reconhecemos a importância e contribuições únicas da vida selvagem para as pessoas e para o planeta.
Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas designou o dia para celebrar e aumentar a consciência sobre a fauna e a flora selvagens do mundo.
Tema 2024:
“Ligar Pessoas e Planeta: Explorar a Inovação Digital na Conservação da Vida Selvagem”.
O Dia Mundial da Vida Selvagem de 2024 pretende explorar a inovação digital e a destacar como as tecnologias e serviços de conservação digital podem impulsionar a conservação da vida selvagem, o comércio sustentável e legal da vida selvagem e a coexistência entre humanos e animais selvagens, agora e para as gerações futuras num mundo cada vez mais conectado.
Em mensagem, o secretário-geral, António Guterres, defende que o uso responsável, sustentável e equitativo destes recursos pode revolucionar a conservação. A data é celebrada em 184 Estados. Membros.
Para o Secretário-Geral da ONU, apesar do poder destas ferramentas, elas não são uma solução mágica. O líder da ONU pede que países, empresas e indivíduos coordenem esforços para ajudar a recuperar a vida selvagem e a construir um futuro justo e sustentável.
Com 1 milhão de espécies de plantas e animais à beira da extinção, ele citou o impacto nocivo de factores como poluição, caos climático, perda de habitat e exploração da natureza.

O Secretário-Geral da ONU chamou a atenção internacional para a ameaça directa à saúde e aos meios de subsistência de milhares de milhões de pessoas, especialmente as mais vulneráveis.
A Assembleia Geral designou o dia para “celebrar e aumentar a consciência sobre a fauna e a flora selvagens do mundo”.
Na data foi adoptada a "Convenção sobre o Comércio Internacional das Espécies da Fauna e da Flora Selvagens Ameaçadas de Extinção", Cities, em 1973.
Activitidades:
Escolas, professores.as e estudantesdevem desenvolver actividades e projectos transcurriculares, por exemplo:
Organizar eventos ou divulgar o seu empenhamento para com a vida selvagem nas redes sociais em intercâmbio com outras escolas do país ou inyernacionais.
Divulgar o tema, especialmente com outros estudantes de escolas primárias e secundárias. As novas gerações sõa os futuros leaders da conservação da vida selvagem e merecem um futuro onde os as pessoas devem viver em harmonia com a vida selvagem, fauna e flora que compartilham o mesmo planeta terra.

Also known as the gnu, the wildebeest is a member of the antelope family. They have a large, box-like head with curving horns. Can live to be 40 years old, migrate close to 1,600 kilometers each year and can run up to 65 kilometers per year.

World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people. At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts. Given these various negative effects, Sustainable Development Goal 15 focuses on halting biodiversity loss.
Theme 2024:
“Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”
World Wildlife Day 2024 serves as a platform for cross-generational exchange and youth empowerment. Through art, presentations, and discussions, it focuses on the opportunities for sustainable digital wildlife conservation. It encourages exploration of existing digital innovations, addresses intersectional discrepancies, and envisions inclusive digital connectivity for all people and the planet.
"We find ourselves amidst a global digital revolution that is dismantling barriers to people-centered digital governance and equal opportunities. The ‘digital divide’ is gradually shrinking, with improved connectivity and Internet access now reaching 66 percent of our global population.
However, approximately 2.7 billion people worldwide remain offline. In the least developed countries and landlocked developing nations, only an average of 36 percent of the population has online access. Furthermore, women and young individuals are disproportionately affected by gaps in Internet access and job-ready digital skills.

Schools, teachers and students must be involved by, for example:
Organize your own event or share your commitment to wildlife on social media.
Spread the word, especially to children and youth. They are the future leaders of wildlife conservation and they deserve a future where we humans live in harmony with wildlife that share the planet with us.
